What is the difference between digital prints and giclée archival prints? Giclée printing is one of the best reproduction methods available and the minimum standard required for museums and art galleries. It is a process that uses a 12 colour ink jet printer, acid free papers , and pigment based archival inks. This insures that the print won’t degrade or yellow over time. Giclée printing allows the artist to provide a quality product for their customers that is extremely age resistant.
Digital printing is the cheapest method of printing and can be as simple as printing at office works. That said, it can still be carried out with high attention to detail and paper options including quality water colour paper. It is only a four colour process versus the giclée which is a 12 colour process. This means that the level of detail and vibrancy achievable is reduced and there is no guarantee the print won’t fade or discolour over time.
